On May 16, 2011, tan and gray smoke spread hundreds of kilometers across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories in Canada. At 10:00 a.m., the Alberta government reported 116 fires burning in the province, 34 of them out of control. The following day, the total number of fires had dropped to 100, and the number of uncontrolled fires had dropped to 22. But four new fires had started to burn out of control.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite took this image at 12:35 p.m. local time on May 16. Similar images of central Canada are available twice daily here: rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/subsets/?subset=CentralCanada

The fires forced some energy and transportation companies to suspend operations, reported CBC News. Multiple oil and gas companies suspended drilling and moved their employees to safety. Oil transport was also hampered by a shutdown of rail service and a pipeline closure. Meanwhile, fires near Lesser Slave Lake destroyed 40 percent of the nearby town on May 15, including hundreds of homes and businesses and the town hall.

On May 17, CBC News reported that British Columbia was sending 200 more firefighters, in addition to the 130 firefighters already deployed to Alberta. Fire danger remained extreme throughout much of northern Alberta on May 17, the government reported.

Welcome to Ontario, Canada

“Welcome to Ontario” (c) 1995 Ontario, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Recreation You would be surprised knowing the story of this particular video clip. First time I saw it many years ago (around 1996) in Russia when multimedia stuff on PCs like video was rare. At that time I lived in Russia and was just dreaming about going abroad to study or work. Since that time I kept the video burnt on one of my CDs as an example of how professional video has to be done. 10 years later, I “found” that video on the old CD and uploaded it to Youtube. The difference this time was – I am a ?anadian citizen enjoying living in Canada. The video clip, sponsored by Ontario province government and created in Canada, made its way from Canada to Russia in 1996, then it flew back to Canada in 2001 and 10 years later (in 2006) was uploaded to Youtube so you all can see it. Isn’t it amazing? I consider this video clip as symbolic pride of the country where we can live freely and secure, pride of achieving our goals when we are really passionate about them. This is a great example of how our “vision” makes dreams come true… ;)

What neighborhood in Montreal, Canada would be the best to stay in during late March?

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011 | Montreal with 5 Comments

Question by SD2007: What neighborhood in Montreal, Canada would be the best to stay in during late March?
I am going to Montreal in late March. I would like to try the boutique hotel experience and have found some great places in Old Montreal and in the Lation Quarter. Which area would be better to stay in during the month of March? I want to be near things so that I don’t have to drive around or take too many cab or train rides. I don’t want it to be completely dead, but I don’t mind a little quiet. I would like any hotel or restaurant suggestions you have, but really need to know which neighborhood is the best during March.

Best answer:

Answer by Châteauguay
The Latin Quarter is much more enjoyable than Old Montreal, which gets too many American tourists. The Latin Quarter has or is close to many excellent restaurants and the major French shopping streets of small shops and boutiques.

Question by jordana_bby: What are some UNIVERSITIES in ONTARIO, CANADA that have good graphic art programs?
I am interested in going into a graphic arts program, but I would like it to be a bit more broad. I hope to one day work for the media, most preferably in new media for a record label.
Is a graphic art degree the right route for this degree? If so, what are some good programs in Ontario, Canada and the university?
They do not have to be specifically graphic arts, for example, I am considering Media, Information and Technoculture at Western University.
Thanks!

If you goal is to eventually get into television or radio ryerson is the best choice. They have direct connections in the industry. Remember that your focus is employ-ability after you get your degree. Number 1 school is U of T for general overall notoriety. Number 1 school for business is Schulc. Number 1 school for. Engineering is Waterloo. Google ryerson I’m sure you will find what your looking for. There is an open house this Saturday. Good luck!

How is the number of days a Canada PR lives in Canada counted?

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011 | Canada with 1 Comment

Question by Stan: How is the number of days a Canada PR lives in Canada counted?
A Canada PR (permanent resident) is required to accumulate at least 2 years (out of every 5 years) of living in Canada in order to maintain the PR status. However I am wondering how they actually count the number of days a PR lived in Canada. When a person drives from the United States to Canada, neither US border officers nor Canada border officers record anything. When a person drives from Canada to the US, nothing is recorded either. If the person keeps traveling between the US and Canada without going to a 3rd country (so nothing is stamped on the passport), how does Canada immigration officers know how many days the person actually lives in Canada?

Best answer:

Answer by quizzard123
Simply put, you are incorrect. Your license at minimum is recorded each time you leave and enter the country by car. When presenting ID (passport etc) at the border, it is also recorded. Canada and the US share this information, so the US knows when you return to Canada, and Canada knows when you leave.

In the past, there might have been opportunity to leave or enter without a permanent record, but today, each passage is recorded.
